JIBS Entrepreneurship Challenge

Based on a donation from Aktiestinsen (Lennart Israelsson), JIBS arranges a yearly student competition to stimulate entrepreneurship and creativity. The competition is developed to foster cross-disciplinary thinking and team work among students at JIBS and School of Engineering.

The focus is a real life company problem. On day one the competing teams get information about the challenge and are then allowed 24 hours to come up with a solution and prepare an 8-minute pitch to sell it. The teams pitch their solutions to juries including representatives from JTH, JIBS, Science Park and business life. The best pitches are repeated in a grand finale, open for all students and faculty. The winning team walks away with 60 000 Sek, two runner up teams walk away with 30 000 Sek.

The competition is held between 11-13 April, with the Grand Finale on 13 April.

Program 13 April:

Seeing is believing - Using digita image correlation in applied research

When studying the mechanical behavior of engineering systems subjected to load, some kind of measurement system is used to acquire data that describe the behavior of the system. Most commonly the applied load and deformation are monitored and from these stresses and strains, and thus failure parameters can be derived. For a better resolved visualization of the strains, optical techniques like digital image correlation (DIC) can be used. These techniques have been available for several decades but have recently found increasing use because of the improved computing power and lower hardware cost. Furthermore, these techniques give experimental data to validate material models used in e.g. finite element simulations. The lecture will give an overview of digital image correlation and its use in applied research.
