WebLearn: Design for casting - a foundryman?s perspective

An efficient product realization process for castings, from design idea to finished product, requires a good interaction between the designer and the manufacturer. The designer needs to have a good insight into the casting process and understand the possibilities and limitations that the process puts on geometrical design.

In this webinar, we will provide a foundryman's perspective on the topic “design for casting”. We will follow different steps that an iron foundry takes to evaluate a customer’s design proposal and highlight some points that are important to consider as a designer in order to prepare a design that is suitable for casting, but also reduces the economic cost as well as the environmental impact. We will also discuss tools such as 3D printed sand moulds and simulations can support the design process and make it more efficient.
After the webinar there will be a +30 min group discussion and networking.

After attending this webinar you will know more about:
* How the different aspects of the geometrical design affect the casting process and the work in the foundry
* How a foundry can support the design process for cast components
* How small changes in the design can have a large impact on the cost and environmental impact of a casting

This webinar is specifically useful for designers, purchasers and suppliers of cast components, but also everyone with an interest in product realization and casting in general.
