Lifelong Learning Policy and Practice in Japan - Traces of inspiration from SwedenWelcome to a Seminar with Guest Researcher Yukiko Sawano, Professor, University of Sacred Heart, Tokyo. In Japan, the endeavor to construct ‘lifelong learning society’ has been taken since the introduction of the concept of ‘lifelong education’ and ‘lifelong learning’ raised by UNESCO and OECD in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The overall goal of constructing lifelong learning society in Japan is to adapt to the changes faced by the citizens. In the seminar, firstly development of lifelong learning concept, policy and practice since the middle of 20th century will be reviewed. Secondly, it will shed light on the influence of “Sweden Model” in Japanese lifelong learning, such as “recurrent education” and “popular education (folkbildning)”. Lastly, new movement by younger generation to discover the attractiveness of Nordic lifelong learning will be introduced. Welcome to participate on HLK or via Zoom.
